What Is Foursquare?

A couple of weeks ago, my friend and colleague, Sharon Cain, asked me to guest blog for her. My topic? Social media predictions for 2010.

My first prediction is that Foursquare, from a business-to-consumer perspective, is about to create an entirely new way to track customer loyalty. Instead of having someone come in with their punch card, and them receiving a product or service free after 10 purchases, with Foursquare retailers now know what time of day their loyal customers visit, all of their personal demographics, what they typically buy, and how much they typically spend. Think of the possibilities!

THEN! Late last week, Starbucks announced a partnership with Foursquare to offer promotions for their loyal customers. They're the trail blazers. Read the Mashable story about it here, keep an eye out for what's coming next, and think about how/if you can use Foursquare in your business.
